Bogus collectors probe
GARDAÍ are investigating the fraudulent collection of money for the “Friends of the Cahill Family Fund” across the district.
There have been reports of door to door collections happening on behalf of the family of the New Ross woman who is in jail in Australia, pending her trial in relation to the death of Enniscorthy man David Walsh in mid-February.
A Cahill family spokesperson said: ‘Please do not donate. This is not a part of our fundraising effort. Ask to see a permit and please take the registration of the vehicle and report it to the Gardai on 051 426030.’
There have been reports from Adamstown and other areas of people collecting for the fund and the family wish to alert people that the only way to donate is by contributing online at www.ifundraise.ie/cahillfamilycommunityfund or alternatively with the AIB: IBAN - IE89AIBK93343021624079 BIC AIBKIE2D.
The family, who are wellknown for their active volunteerism with New Ross River Search & Rescue, hope to raise €100,000 to pay for Tina’s legal fees. To date around €33,000 has been raised.
‘It’s really very frustrating to think that there are people in our area who think they can make a few quid off the back of something so distressing for the family.
‘We really appreciate the kind support from all the community and would hate to see people’s hard earned cash fall into the wrong hands. I’d say they’ll have no luck for it but it doesn’t always seem to work out that way.’
