Wexford People - - FRONT PAGE - By DAVID TUCKER

COUNCILLOR Deirdre Wadding last night officially announced that she is stepping down from the county council from October 27.

The colourful People Before Profit member said yesterday’s county council meeting was her last as would would be next Monday’s meeting of the Wexford borough district.

She told fellow councillors that her mental health was the reason for her decision to stand down.

Cllr Wadding said recently that a bout of ill health had forced her to re-think her priorities.

Deirdre Wadding was elected in May of 2014 at the local elections as a candidate for the People Before Profit Alliance. She picked up 599 (3.76%) first preference votes in the Wexford borough area before edging out Labour councillor Joe Ryan.

Cllr Wadding’s replacement on the council is likely to be fellow member of People Before Profit Tony Walsh, a former coordinator and project manager with Living Links and co-author of ‘Understanding Suicide: Exposing the pain within the suicide box’.
