Information meeting on new renal dialysis unit
B. Braun, the company developing a new satellite kidney dialysis unit in Drinagh, is holding an information evening for patients and their families in Clayton Whites Hotel this Thursday, October 12 from 7 to 8.15 pm.
The Wellstone Clinic is currently under construction at Sinnottstown Lane, on the outskirts of town, and is on schedule to be open in early 2018, according to the Operations Manager, Stephen Byrne.
The information meeting will begin with an on opening address by a senior representative of University Hospital Waterford which will have clinical governance over the operation of the long-awaited Wexford dialysis unit.
Representatives of B.Braun which won the contract after Fresenius Medical Care Ltd failed to obtain planning for a dialysis centre in a former factory unit in Whitemill Industrial Estate, will give a progress report on the project and outline the service and facilities to be offered by the ‘state-of-the-art’ unit. A 3-D model and new dialysis equipment will be available for people to view.
Dr. Frank Kelly, Consultant Nephrologist at University Hospital Waterford will talk about the enhancement of renal care services in the south-east while a representative of the Irish Kidney Association will talk about the project from a patient’s perspective.
A question and answer session will be held by the HSE and B. Braun, to address any additional queries that people in attendance might have.

The Wexford Wellstone Clinic began recruiting for nurses and other healthcare staff recently.
The new clinic is the culmination of a 10-year campaign to have a kidney dialysis unit built in Wexford to improves the lives of patients who currently have to travel to Waterford or Dublin up to three times a week to receive life-saving treatment.
