Vandals score a vicious point

October 1993

-

We’ve heard of people moving the goalposts, but this is ridiculous! Members of Clonard GAA club arrived at their pitch in Coolcotts Lane last week to discover that vandals had been at work.

No, they didn’t steal jerseys, throw empty beer cans around the pitch, or even set fire to hedges. Instead, they went to the bother of sawing down a goalpost.

It’s not even that they needed a goalpost for anything, because when the job was done, they left it lying on the grass. Club officials had to nail the post back on before play could resume at the grounds. The field is owned by St. Peter’s College.
