Four win­ners, along with four run­ners-up, have been awarded prizes in the Tal­bot Ho­tel Artist of the Year 2017 com­pe­ti­tion.

A special re­cep­tion for all 32 fi­nal­ists, was held at the Tal­bot Ho­tel re­cently, at which Wex­ford Area Man­ager Robert Mil­lar pre­sented the pri­mary and sec­ondary school stu­dents with their prizes.

Rory Ward, from St Peter’s Col­lege was the Leav­ing Cer­tifi­cate­and over­all win­ner with April Freeney, from Creagh Col­lege, in Gorey, the run­ner-up.

Win­ner in the first Cat­e­gory Pri­mary School Cat­e­gory 1 was Ge­orge Ke­hoe, from St Mar­garet’s NS, Cur­r­a­cloe, with Aideen O’Brien, from Pierces­town NS, named as run­ner-up.

Win­ner in Pri­mary School Cat­e­gory 2 was Sarah McLough­lin, from Kil­rane NS, with run­ner up Aoife O’Dowd, from Ki­lanerin NS.

Ash­ley Hen­nessy, from Gorey Com­mu­nity School, was named as the win­ner in the Ju­nior Cer­tifi­cate Cat­e­gory and run­ner-up from CBS Sec­ondary School, New Ross was Ciara O’Neill.

All win­ners and run­ners up re­ceived an en­graved tro­phy along with art ma­te­ri­als from Spec­trum Art & Fram­ing Wex­ford. The Art work from the four Win­ners will now be framed and kept on dis­play in the Ho­tel.

Pri­mary and Sec­ondary school stu­dents around the county en­tered the free com­pe­ti­tion which is now in its fourth year, 32 fi­nal­ists were cho­sen across four cat­e­gories in ages rang­ing from 5-18 years. Their art­work was on dis­play in the Tal­bot Ho­tel for the du­ra­tion of the Wex­ford Opera Fes­ti­val and has re­ceived fan­tas­tic praise
