Four winners, along with four runners-up, have been awarded prizes in the Talbot Hotel Artist of the Year 2017 competition.
A special reception for all 32 finalists, was held at the Talbot Hotel recently, at which Wexford Area Manager Robert Millar presented the primary and secondary school students with their prizes.
Rory Ward, from St Peter’s College was the Leaving Certificateand overall winner with April Freeney, from Creagh College, in Gorey, the runner-up.
Winner in the first Category Primary School Category 1 was George Kehoe, from St Margaret’s NS, Curracloe, with Aideen O’Brien, from Piercestown NS, named as runner-up.
Winner in Primary School Category 2 was Sarah McLoughlin, from Kilrane NS, with runner up Aoife O’Dowd, from Kilanerin NS.
Ashley Hennessy, from Gorey Community School, was named as the winner in the Junior Certificate Category and runner-up from CBS Secondary School, New Ross was Ciara O’Neill.
All winners and runners up received an engraved trophy along with art materials from Spectrum Art & Framing Wexford. The Art work from the four Winners will now be framed and kept on display in the Hotel.
Primary and Secondary school students around the county entered the free competition which is now in its fourth year, 32 finalists were chosen across four categories in ages ranging from 5-18 years. Their artwork was on display in the Talbot Hotel for the duration of the Wexford Opera Festival and has received fantastic praise
