HAVING €100 worth of cocaine on his person when entering Ireland on board the Stena Europe has resulted in a court appearance for Londoner Denis Guerin with an address at 55 Mordaunt Road.

The court heard that Guerin was travelling to Ireland from Fishguard to attend a family funeral when he was stopped by customs officers. A search uncovered white power in his underwear which he admitted was cocaine.

The court heard that Guerin had four previous convictions in the UK, including for possession of cannabis and cocaine. Solicitor Lana Doherty told the court that her client had travelled over for a family funeral, which he was due to attend right after the court case concluded. She said that the drugs were for her client’s own personal use and that he apologised profusely.

Upon hearing all the evidence, Judge Haughton fined Guerin €250 payable forthwith.
