Kilmore MARINE SPATIAL PLAN

Ireland is currently developing its first Marine Spatial Plan (MSP). Marine spatial planning is about organising activities and development in our shared marine space. It is a mechanism for managing our marine resources and providing long term investment predictability for development and activities in our maritime area.

Ireland’s MSP will be a policy framework with a horizon of 2040, in line with the lifetime of the new National Planning Framework, Ireland 2040. It will be supported by a Government decision and informed by detailed analysis of current conditions, uses and trends in Ireland’s marine environment.

Before work commences on drafting the plan, the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government is seeking to raise awareness about MSP and the process of producing Ireland’s plan among all stakeholders in the marine sector. Awareness raising for coastal communities is a key focus of this work.

Representatives from the Department based in Wexford (and frequent visitors to Kilmore Quay) want to start that outreach in their own back yard starting with the community in Kilmore Quay and environs by holding an information session at the Stella Maris Centre on 7.30 p.m., Tuesday, March 27.
