9 She Means Nothing To Me Phil Everly and Cliff Richard 10 Rip It Up Orange Juice Power ballad ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’, one of the most recognisable songs of the 80s, was written by Meat Loaf composer and producer Jim Steinman who offered the song to Bonnie Tyler after being asked to be her producer. The original track was seven minutes long but, on Tyler’s insistence, this was cut to a more radiofriendly four and a half minutes. The song, which has clocked up sales of over six million, is the raspy-voiced Tyler’s only UK number one. It hit the top of the charts in many other territories, including the US, Ireland, Australia, Canada, France, and Norway, and helped propel the Welsh singer’s 1983 album ‘Faster Than The Speed Of Light’ to number one in the UK.
