National win for Gorey bred horse
April 2003
Ireland’s new ‘national hero’ and Aintree Grand National winner, Monty’s Pass, raised cheers around Gorey on Saturday, as the 16-1 shot was bred locally by the late Gerry Slattery.
The Slattery family were suitably ‘over the moon’ when the horse came up trumps in the race, roping home by 12 lengths.
Niall, son of the late Gerry from Knockmullen, was still thrilled on Tuesday with the success of the horse, saying that his father would have ‘gotten a great kick out of it’. ‘It was an emotional day, but we know he would have been on a high,’ he said.
