THREE GREAT CAUSES GET BIG CHEQUES

- By BRENDAN KEANE

THE SUCCESS of the Wexford Charity Fundraising Group’s first ever event was underlined last week when three cheques for €2,125 each were handed over to three local organisations.

Speaking to this newspaper about the Charity Ball, Linda Brennan said it was a great success and she thanked everyone involved in helping out including local businesses that donated to the appeal. She said the idea to start the group came about from a desire to help people.

The Wexford Charity Fundraising Group was set up by Ms Brennan and two other local women, Leanne Goff and Sarah Reck, to raise money for Wexford Hospice Homecare, Wexford Alzheimers and SERT (South East Regional Transport), which provides transport for people attending Whitfield Clinic in Waterford.

Ms Brennan said: ‘I formed the WCFG as I had been wanting to do something for a while and last year I decided I would organise a ball.

‘The hotel and band were booked and then it was a case of “right, now it has to go on”. The three of us organised it and I also held a coffee morning and there will also be some more things coming up this year.’

The group raises money specifically for the three charities mentioned and Ms Brennan said she has a special affinity for them. ‘I can’t do anything for people myself so I decided to raise awareness and money.’

She also acknowledged David Martin for his help in ensuring the event was a success.

The money was handed over to the three charities at a ceremony in the Talbot Hotel with representatives of each expressing gratitude to everyone who supported the ball.
