War­rants is­sued for 32 peo­ple

WAR­RANTS were is­sued by Judge Ger­ard Haughton for the ar­rest of 32 peo­ple who had failed to pay court fines.

At the Dis­trict Court sit­ting in Wex­ford, the court clerk went through a roll call of 57 cases.

The judge made no or­der in 13 of th­ese af­ter he was told that no­tice of pro­ceed­ings had not been served on those named.

Three of those called were present at the court­house in Belvedere Road to have their cases ad­journed to Septem­ber and a fourth case was also ad­journed.

Six were struck out af­ter the clerk in­formed the judge that the fines had been paid since pro­ceed­ings were is­sued.

Two oth­ers were struck out af­ter the court noted that com­pa­nies were named as de­fen­dants and the judge said he could not is­sue a bench war­rant for ar­rest of a com­pany.

In the past the judge has de­scribed the sys­tem for col­lec­tion of fines as use­less.
