Warrants issued for 32 people

-

WARRANTS were issued by Judge Gerard Haughton for the arrest of 32 people who had failed to pay court fines.

At the District Court sitting in Wexford, the court clerk went through a roll call of 57 cases.

The judge made no order in 13 of these after he was told that notice of proceedings had not been served on those named.

Three of those called were present at the courthouse in Belvedere Road to have their cases adjourned to September and a fourth case was also adjourned.

Six were struck out after the clerk informed the judge that the fines had been paid since proceedings were issued.

Two others were struck out after the court noted that companies were named as defendants and the judge said he could not issue a bench warrant for arrest of a company.

In the past the judge has described the system for collection of fines as useless.
