Man facing 24 charges of sexual assault
TWENTY-FOUR sexual assault charges were tabled at the District Court sitting in Wexford as a man from the New Ross area was brought before Judge Gerard Haughton.
Formal evidence of arrest, charge and caution was given to the court by a garda who called out the numbers of the two dozen charge sheets to the judge.
Sergeant Gary Rayner confirmed that it was intended to bring the matter to a higher court and he applied successfully to have the matter adjourned for preparation of a book of evidence.
The defendant, who was born in the late 1950s, was represented during the brief hearing by solicitor Eric Furlong.
Mr Furlong was assigned to the case on legal aid after confirming that his client is not in work.
The defendant left court after signing a bail bond, agreeing to have no contact with allegedly any injured party and to surrender his passport.
