Man pleads guilty to in­de­cent as­sault in 1970s

A SOUTH WEX­FORD man who pleaded guilty to two charges of in­de­cent as­sault has been re­manded on con­tin­u­ing bail while await­ing sen­tence.

When the case came be­fore Judge Cor­mac Quinn at Wex­ford Cir­cuit Court, Pros­e­cut­ing Coun­sel, Sinead Glee­son, said it’s a mat­ter which should be heard in cam­era.

The de­fen­dant pleaded guilty to in­de­cent as­sault be­tween Septem­ber 6, 1978, and Septem­ber 5, 1979. He fur­ther pleaded guilty to a charge of in­de­cent as­sault be­tween Septem­ber 6, 1979 and Septem­ber 5, 1980.

De­fence Coun­sel, Philip Shea­han, asked that sen­tenc­ing be put back with the de­fen­dant on con­tin­u­ing bail. He also re­quested that a Pro­ba­tion and Wel­fare re­port be pro­vided. The de­fen­dant, he said, had no pre­vi­ous con­vic­tions.

Ms Glee­son also re­quested that a vic­tim im­pact re­port be pro­vided.

Judge Quinn said he would re­mand the de­fen­dant on con­tin­u­ing bail to Jan­uary 11 next for sen­tenc­ing.
