€10,000 sniffed out
A SNIFFER dog trained to find money at Rosslare Europort recently turned up cash worth more than €10,000, the District Court learned.
Customs and Excise prosecutor Robert McGuinness successfully applied to retain the money for at least three months.
He explained how £6,190 in sterling and €4,500 in euro were seized and he suspected that it was the proceeds of crime.
The suspect notes were in two cars and came to light after the ‘detector dog’ went to work.
They were carried in separate vehicles but both stashes were claimed by a man called Stefan Aurelian Blaj with an address at 18 Sandyford Hill Rise in Dublin. He was not present in court.
