Delight on double!

Oylegate-Glenbrien ease to victory

- DEAN GOODISON U15FR 1S in St. Pat’s Park

OYLEGATE-GLENBRIEN powered to a Roinn 1 shield double as they completed their Gorey Guardian Under-15 football success against Our Lady’s Island/St. Fintan’s in St. Patrick’s Park on Tuesday.

The Enniscorthy District side simply had too much pace and power for their opponents, as their direct running and clinical finishing killed off their spirited rivals after three quick majors early in the second-half.

The gulf that eventually separated the sides was far from evident in the opening quarter as the boys wearing the predominantly green of St. Fintan’s gave it a real go.

They had an early Aaron Busher goal disallowed for a square ball but kept powering forward regardless.

Busher turned provider for Kyle Rankin in the seventh minute, and the flying forward broke through, still had plenty to do, but did it emphatically by smashing his shot high past Paul Burns.

Mikie Doyle and Dara Casey got Oylegate-Glenbrien within a point in the 15th minute before Ryan Cullen’s goal fired them ahead for the first time.

The eventual champions piled on the pressure in the second quarter and it told just before the break when Aaron Quigley hit the net.

Suddenly up by 2-5 to 1-0 at the change of ends, Oylegate-Glenbrien pushed on with three goals in nine minutes after the resumption.

Casey netted the first two, and Quigley then added his second as the lead swelled to 17.

Conall Byrne came to the fore as the half wore on and kicked several fine scores, as well as a sixth goal for his side.

Seán Rowley popped over a late point but Our Lady’s Island/ St. Fintan’s battled away and scavenged a late major through Oisín Meyler.

Oylegate-Glenbrien had earlier swapped ’keepers with Jack Hennessy going in goal, while previous stopper Paul Burns went upfield and kicked the final score to cement the title for his side.
