Jazz trio for Arts Centre concert

Guitarist and composer Chris Montague who has carved a name for himself on the London jazz scene, has teamed up with the iconic Irish jazz drummer Kevin Lawlor for a brief tour of the south-east of Ireland that will include the virtuoso double bass player Ashley John Long from Cardiff.

The trio of highly skilled improvisin­g jazz musicians will perform music by all three members along with one or two choice jazz standards.

They will play in Wexford Arts Centre on Saturday, February 9 at 8.30 p.m. in a must see concert for guitar fans and jazz fans alike. Tickets are available from the Arts Centre in Cornmarket, telephone 053 9123764.

Chris Montague is known as a guitarist and composer with his own unique approach to his instrument and improvised music. He performs with such luminaries as electronic musician and bass player Squarepush­er, German drummer Benny Greb as well as leading his own projects that include Warmer Than Blood and Troyka and he will be touring in Europe and Russia in the coming months.

Ashley John Long has carved a niche as a composer of innovative scores. He performs as a soloist throughout the UK and Europe, specialisi­ng in contempora­ry repertoire.

As a composer, his commission­s include works for the Lunar Saxophone Quartet, percussion soloist Dave Danford as well as a big band work for Welsh harpist Catrin Finch.

His jazz works have been performed by leading jazz orchestras around the world and have been broadcast on radio and television.
