Second attempt to get plan approved
THE newly-lodged Ballymanus Wind Farm application by ABO Wind Ireland Ltd represents the company’s second attempt to develop the project since 2014.
The previous application sought permission for 12, rather than 11, 150 metre turbines and was lodged with Wicklow County Council on December 23, 2014.
At that time there was a vast amount of opposition from small communities across the county and a public meeting in Aughrim drew hundreds.
In excess of 400 submissions were made to Wicklow County Council and the application was refused on February 24, 2015.
The company did not appeal this decision to An Bord Pleanála.
However, the fact that a new application has now been submitted has received significant criticism from residents and local politicians and a further public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 20.
ABO Wind Ireland Ltd has encouraged the public to examine the new application which it says has an ‘increased setback distance’ for turbines from residential properties.
