FR PETER MCVERRY INSPIRES AT SPECIAL MASS IN TINAHELY
ST Kevin’s Church, Kilaveney, Tinahely was the setting for a very special Mass led by well known campaigner and champion for the homeless Fr. Peter McVerry on Saturday.
Fr McVerry was assisted by Fr Raymond Gahan, Parish Priest in Kilaveney/Crossbridge and music and singing was performed by Kilaveney Folk Group.
Fr McVerry gave the homily, the theme of which was ‘Homelessness a challenge for the Gospel’. His insightful and thought provoking message had a great impact on the large congregation.
The impact was so strong that when the Mass was finished, people were eager to lend their enthusiastic support to the work of Peter McVerry Trust.
There was no appeal for funds, however an impressive €1,225.50 was very generously donated and this illustrated the big-hearted generosity of everyone present in the church on Saturday last. All proceeds to the Peter McVerry Trust, a charity which has been responding to the needs of people effected by homelessness since 1983.
Event organiser Ellen Fox Lanigan extended heartfelt thanks to everyone for their extraordinary generosity to the charity and said that Fr McVerry was overwhelmed by the kindness and support.
Saturday was also an opportunity for Transition Year YSI Students from Colaiste Bhride, Carnew to present Fr McVerry with a cheque for €1,216. This amount was raised during colour run fundraiser organised by these students in May for Peter McVerry Trust.
