Carnew show makes wel­come re­turn this week

AF­TER a year’s ab­sence, the Carnew and District Agri­cul­tural Show is back this Satur­day, July 15.

The 71st show kicks off at Um­ri­gar, Carnew, at 11 a.m. and the or­gan­is­ers are hop­ing for a large turnout from both com­peti­tors and the gen­eral pub­lic. Ad­mis­sion for adults is €5 while chil­dren go free.

In the horse sec­tion there are qual­i­fiers for shows across the coun­try in­clud­ing: the Red Mills Non-Thor­ough­bred Colt/Geld­ing Two Year Old All Ire­land Cham­pi­onship at the Ti­na­hely Show; the Lim­er­ick Lady Cham­pi­onship for two-year old tra­di­tion­ally bred fil­lies; and the Three Year Old Filly All Ire­land Cham­pi­onship at the Bantry Show.

There are also com­pe­ti­tions for car­riage driv­ing; sheep; poul­try, which is new this year; a dog show; and an in­door sec­tion fea­tur­ing bak­ing, crafts, art, pho­tog­ra­phy, flow­ers, coun­try pro­duce, a ju­nior sec­tion, and a qual­i­fier for the Easter­li­cious Cook of the Year com­pe­ti­tion at the Moate Show.

There’s also a qual­i­fier for the All Ire­land Tra­di­tional Hand­made Craft Fi­nal at the Ballyshan­non Show; for the Fleet­wood Paints All Ire­land Ama­teur Paint­ing Com­pe­ti­tion at the Vir­ginia Show; and for the Bord Bia All Ire­land Qual­ity Potato Cham­pi­onship at the Tul­lam­ore Show.

The day will also in­clude chil­dren’s en­ter­tain­ment, and a bar­be­cue and mu­sic on the show field on show night when the com­pe­ti­tions have con­cluded.
