RNLI golf classic proceeds presented

Wicklow People (Arklow) - - NEWS -

THE recent Arklow RNLI Golf Classic was a resounding success, raising €3,600 for the Arklow Lifeboat.

Arklow Golf Club hosted the event which has been running for over 40 years, and club captain Mark Byrne presented the proceeds to Michael Mordaunt, fundraising chairman recently.

The main event sponsor is Arklow Shipping Ltd, and the golf classic has been a popular outing in Arklow for golf enthusiasts for many years. This year saw club members, local golf society members and teams from local businesses take part. Started in the 1950s the event was the brainchild of Christy Mullet who named it the Lifeboat Rumble. In the 1970s Mary and Nick Tancred took over as organisers until the late 1990s when Eddie Howlin came on board. Two years ago Mark Canavan took on the role of organiser and continues to ensure that the RNLI Golf Classic is a well supported fundraiser.
