ST JOHN’S NS SMASHES ITS FUNDRAISING TARGET
THE St John’s SNS ‘Space to Play’ fundraising campaign has smashed its year one target in under six months.
The Arklow school is aiming to raise €100,000 in three years (€35,000 per year) and then present its contribution to the Department of Education towards the €300,000 building project.
Since the school’s amalgamation in 2016, the PE hall is no longer fit for purpose and it cannot hold the entire student body there at one time for health and safety reasons.
The ‘ Space to Play’ campaign aims to give the children their much-needed drama space, music space and PE space.
The Parents’ Association was instrumental in the school reaching this year one target, having run many events, including a band night in the Arklow Bay Hotel, and the school is most grateful to the talented local bands who donated their time and talent to this fundraiser.
The teachers and staff have also been doing their bit having completed the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon – or the ‘Space Race’ as they renamed it – to raise funds. The St John’s students are the project’s greatest ambassadors, delivering passionate speeches on live social media broadcasts and promoting ‘Space to Play’ in their community.
The school is most grateful to the ever expanding portfolio of space friends, which includes local businesses which have donated a sum of money to the cause. This has helped the campaign reach it’s first year target so quickly. New space friends are always welcome and the school offers an attractive promotional package in return.
Emer and Pat are contactable via Facebook at ‘Space to Play Campaign’ and would love to hear from any prospective space friends.
