Charles Egan will launch ‘Gold is the Dawn’, the fi­nal part of his his­tor­i­cal fic­tion tril­ogy. The book fol­lows a group of char­ac­ters fight­ing for sur­vival, both at home in famine-hit Ire­land and as they tried to eek out a new life in Eng­land or Amer­ica. Charles will present a short talk on the his­tory of the famine in Wick­low, fol­lowed by a read­ing and book sign­ing. Join Ir­ish Wildlife Trust Cam­paigns Of­fi­cer Padraic Fog­a­rty for a talk about his book ‘Whit­tled Away’. The book charts the de­cline of na­ture in the Ir­ish coun­try­side but also re­veals the pos­si­bil­i­ties for the fu­ture which could lead us on a path to re­cov­ery for na­ture and wildlife in par­tic­u­lar. Start­ing out from Bray, the group will travel to­wards Laragh, over the hills of Greenane, through Bal­li­na­clash and onto Aughrim. From there, the hills get a bit big­ger as they cross west to­wards Hack­et­stown be­fore tak­ing on the steep climb by the Dy­ing Cow pub. Af­ter this its onto Shil­le­lagh, Cool­boy, an ac­cent into the Wick­low Gap, then Ark­low, Rath­drum and Rath­new be­fore head­ing back to Bray. The golf clubs are be­ing hauled out for the Bridge Ho­tel Golf So­ci­ety an­nual fundrais­ing out­ing in aid of Ark­low RNLI. Take on a few laps of the Red Kite Walk while rais­ing funds for Avoca Tidy Towns and the Avoca Court­house Her­itage Cen­tre. In­di­vid­ual run­ners can take on a 6k chal­lenge (three laps of the Red Kite Walk) or teams of four can do the 8k re­lay race, which is four laps of the walk­ing trail. The 10km and 5km dash from Car­low to Wick­low is back! Run­ners, jog­gers, walk­ers and strollers are in­vited to take on this flat run over the bor­der from Car­low to Wick­low. Reg­is­tra­tion takes place at St Joseph’s NS from 9.30 a.m. GLENCREE PEACE WALK Bonar­alty Bridge near Glen­cullen Noon to 5 p.m.

To mark the In­ter­na­tional Day of Peace, a group will walk from Glen­cullen to Glencree while rais­ing funds to sup­port the peace-buid­ing ef­forts of Glen­creee Cen­tre for Peace and Rec­on­cil­i­a­tion. The walk cover a 10km stretch of the Wick­low Way, with a bus trans­fer at the end to the Glencree cen­tre for re­fresh­ments and drop-off back to Glen­cullen.
