Launch of book on Wicklow woodpeckers
DECLAN Murphy launches his book ‘A Life in the Trees’ at the Glendalough Hotel on Thursday, September 28, at 7.30 p.m.. The event is being hosted by Pat Casey TD. The forward to the book was written by Wicklow based film director John Boorman, who is expected to attend the launch.
Various councillors, Heritage officers have also been invited to the launch as the book was part financed through the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
The book is Declan’s personal account, based on the day to day observations, of a family of woodpeckers nesting in a Spanish Chestnut tree in the Wicklow Mountains.
Declan was one of the small band who scoured the Wicklow oakwoods for nesting Great Spotted Woodpeckers in 2009 to prove the species had settled in the Republic.
In addition to the forward being written by John Boorman, illustrations were provided by internationally renowned bird artist, Killian Mullarney. Refreshments and entertainment will also be provided at the launch.
