Grief at death of Bruce at just 45

THE PEO­PLE OF Ark­low were left shocked and heart­bro­ken at the news of the sud­den pass­ing of Bruce Rum­bold on Sun­day.

Father to Matthew and hus­band to Har­riet, 45-year-old Bruce passed away sud­denly from nat­u­ral causes at home in Wood­brook.

When news broke of Bruce’s pass­ing, many friends took to so­cial me­dia to pay their re­spects to a gen­tle­man. Both Ark­low Com­puter So­lu­tions and Gorey Com­puter So­lu­tions, where Bruce worked, wrote: ‘I just hope you knew how much I ap­pre­ci­ated you and how proud I am of what you did to this place. Who’d have known you’d have turned it into some­thing so big.’

Father to Matthew and hus­band to Har­riet, 45-yearold Bruce passed away sud­denly from nat­u­ral causes at home in Wood­brook.

When news broke of Bruce’s pass­ing, many friends took to so­cial me­dia to pay their re­spects to a big char­ac­ter and a gen­tle­man, who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Both Ark­low Com­puter So­lu­tions and Gorey Com­puter So­lu­tions, where Bruce worked, paid tribute to him on their Face­book pages, say­ing: ‘I just hope you knew how much I ap­pre­ci­ated you and how proud I am of what you did to this place. Who’d have known you’d have turned it into some­thing so big, after start­ing in the lit­tle work­shop at the back of the Ark­low store. I’ ll miss you, Boss!’

Bruce met his wife Har­riet (nee Mur­phy), who is orig­i­nally from Ark­low, in Lon­don. They de­cided to move back to Ark­low town around 2001 and soon wel­comed their baby boy Matthew, who is now 14 years old.

Bruce, who is a na­tive of Kent in Eng­land, worked in the late bar ‘The Tun­nel’ be­fore tak­ing a po­si­tion in Sally O’Brien’s, where he worked for many years.

In July 2015, he got a new job at Ark­low Com­puter So­lu­tions but was soon pro­moted to a man­age­rial po­si­tion in the sis­ter store, Gorey Com­puter So­lu­tions.

He was a big mu­sic en­thu­si­ast and en­joyed lis­ten­ing to heavy metal, in­clud­ing Iron Maiden. Bruce will be sadly missed by wife Har­riet, son Matthew, father Jeff and his part­ner Jan, sis­ter Ni­cola, father-in-law Harry, sis­ters-in-law Lily, Ann-Marie and Brid­get, brothers-in-law Wayne and Andy, nieces, neph­ews, cousins, rel­a­tives, many friends and neigh­bours.

Bruce’s funeral Mass will take place this morn­ing (Wednesday, Oc­to­ber 11) at 10 a.m. in St Mary and Peter’s Church, Ark­low, fol­lowed by burial at St Gabriel’s Ceme­tery, Ark­low.
