THIS week the Gaffney family from Arklow donated the proceeds from their Night For Ray fundraising to The Bone Marrow For Leukaemia Trust.

The family raised a total of €8044.41 in memory of Raymond Gaffney who passed due to a rare strain of leukaemia. Throughout the summer the family had organised various events and collections to raise money for the charity including a night of music in Arklow and a sell out retro night in Dublin which featured Don Conroy from The Den playing a game of Pictionary. These events were helped by collections and private donations.

‘This year has been a great success for us’ said Andy Gaffney. ‘It’s incredibly important for us to raise money for this charity in Raymond’s name and everyone has been incredibly supportive this year , we are incredibly grateful. As important as raising money, it keep’s Raymond’s name alive and well,’ he added.

The funds raised in Raymond’s name will go towards the provision of vital services at the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in St James’s Hospital and will help the charity support patients and their families in Ireland who have Leukiamia, Lymphoma or myeloma and those who have had or may need a stem cell transplant.

‘We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who donated publicly or privately, bought tickets and supported us,’ said Ray Gaffney. ‘Also a massive thank you to the people who helped with the various events, there are far too many to list individually but they know who they are and we are incredibly in their debt.’

This is the third year of A Night For Ray events and to date nearly €20,000 has been raised.
