Walk for Well­ness in aid of Can­cer Sup­port

A group of Ark­low ladies com­menced a six-week ‘Walk for Well­ness’ in aid of Ark­low Can­cer Sup­port.

Now in its third year, the walk is a weekly gather­ing that en­cour­ages lo­cal peo­ple to get out and about in Jan­uary while rais­ing money for a wor­thy cause.

There was a great turnout for the first night and or­gan­iser Liz Ber­ming­ham of LJB Well­ness, Ark­low was de­lighted to wel­come some new and some fa­mil­iar faces.

The walk­ers cov­ered a cir­cuit through the town and back to the start­ing point at the Ark­low Can­cer Sup­port of­fice on St Mary’s Road.

Wall for Well­ness is de­signed to cater for par­tic­i­pants of all fit­ness lev­els and the aim is that re­gard­less of your level at the be­gin­ning, that you will no­tice some im­prove­ment by the sixth week and hope­fully feel more con­fi­dent to get out walk­ing or run­ning af­ter the course fin­ishes.

It’s not too late to join in and par­tic­i­pants can go solo, with a friend, push a buggy or walk their dog. All are wel­come and the more that take part, the more fund­ing is raised for Ark­low Can­cer Sup­port.

The walk starts at 7.30 p.m. ev­ery Mon­day and costs €20 for six weeks. Al­ter­na­tively you can pay as go you for €3 per night.

Each €20 raised cov­ers the trans­porta­tion costs of a pa­tient for treat­ment, one of the most in de­mand ser­vices of­fered by the lo­cal or­gan­i­sa­tion.
