Lions serve up a glitzy lunch

THERE was glitz and glam­our aplenty at the Wood­en­bridge Ho­tel on Sun­day as the Ark­low Lions Club hosted yet an­other Women’s Lit­tle Christ­mas lunch.

Over 170 guests at­tended the event which marked the end of the fes­tive sea­son and the tra­di­tional day off for the lady of the house.

‘We were very happy with the at­ten­dance. It was a sell-out long be­fore the day and we had some ladies ask­ing to book for next year as they en­joyed it so much,’ said Imelda Ri­ley of Ark­low Lions Club.

The event al­ways in­spires guests to dress to im­press and prizes were given to the best-dressed in three cat­e­gories.

Last year’s win­ner Melissa O’Beirne had the job of judg­ing and se­lected Shan­non O’Neill as the spring win­ner, Liz Ber­ming­ham as the sum­mer win­ner and Nancy Quinn as the au­tumn win­ner.

Bernie Fitzger­ald was the lucky win­ner of the first raf­fle prize of an orig­i­nal paint­ing by lo­cal artist Eileen Galvin.

The door prize, spon­sored by the Wood­en­bridge Ho­tel, was won by Maura Thorpe.

Fol­low­ing the meal, there was lots of mu­si­cal en­ter­tain­ment cour­tesy of Pat McCauley as well as Doreen Wixted and Bebe Fitzger­ald of the Ark­low Ukelele Band.

‘We wish to thank ev­ery­one who at­tended and who helped to make the event such a suc­cess, in­clud­ing the Wood­en­bridge Ho­tel, and the en­ter­tain­ers. We are al­ready look­ing for­ward to next year,’ said Imelda.
