Cer­e­mony in mem­ory of Cpl Michael Nolan

THE Sev­enth an­nual re­mem­brance and wreath lay­ing cer­e­mony for Cpl Michael Nolan takes place at Oliver Plun­ket’s Church, Grange­con this Satur­day.

Michael was killed 57 years ago on Septem­ber 15 in El­iz­a­bethville. He is one two men from Wick­low to die in the Congo, the other was Mick McGuinn from Balt­in­glass.

Satur­days cer­e­mony takes place on the ex­act date of Cpl Nolan’s death. It is be­ing hosted by Post 21, Ir­ish United Na­tions Vet­er­ans As­so­ci­a­tion (IUNVA) and gets un­der­way at 12.15 p.m.

Cor­po­ral Nolan grew up in nearby Col­binstown and went to school in Grange­con Na­tional School, now the Com­mu­nity Hall.

Michael’s ex­tended fam­ily, friends and ex com­rades will be in at­ten­dance. Mem­bers of Post 21 will also be joined by other IUNVA posts. The day will include an ec­u­meni­cal ser­vice and a wreath lay­ing cer­e­mony.
