Coffee morning to support World Mental Health Week
A COFFEE morning will take place in Wicklow on Friday, October 12, as part of World Mental Health Week.
Mental health charity GROW is hosting the coffee morning in the De la Salle Pastoral Centre in Wicklow town from 10.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The centre can be accessed from St Patrick’s Church.
The event is being supported by lots of different agencies, including Connecting for Life, the National Learning Network LINK Arklow, Wicklow Health Centre and the HSE’s Mental Health Engagement team among others.
All are being urged to come along and to promote positive mental health as well as awareness of the supports available locally for people struggling with their mental and emotional well-being.
GROW Area Coordinator in Wicklow Izabela Morris is organising the event ans is highlighting the importance of seeking help, reaching out to others and the role of peer-support and mutual understanding in the GROW Programme and overall mental health recovery.
‘As we head back into the routine of autumn, with the shortening days and approach of winter, and with World Mental Health Week coming up, it is important to be mindful of looking after our mental and emotional health and well-being, as we would our physical health,’ she says.
She said that GROW provides a weekly peer support network, where people can come together to discuss any issue or problem that they may be struggling with.
‘We also provide a programme which allows people to gain and maintain positive mental health. In a GROW peer support group, you can learn how to change your thinking and behaviour – for the better. In GROW, we remind people that ‘you alone can do it but you can’t do it alone’ and that is an important message as we head into World Mental Health Day and World Mental Health Week,’ said Izabela.
GROW peer-support groups are free and confidential. A GROW meeting takes place on Wednesdays at 2.30 p.m. in the De La Salle Pastoral Centre in Wicklow town. For details of other GROW groups, visit www.grow.ie.
