DRAMA FES­TI­VAL

Cool­gre­any Drama’s One Act Fes­ti­val 2018 held re­cently at St Mogue’s Hall, Inch was a huge suc­cess, with big crowds turn­ing up on each of the three nights to see nine pro­duc­tions by groups from Coun­ties Wex­ford, Wick­low and other parts of the coun­try.

The Cool­gre­any fes­ti­val is part of the af­fil­i­ated Drama League of Ire­land cir­cuit com­pe­ti­tion, in which groups na­tion­wide are com­pet­ing at fes­ti­vals around the coun­try for places in the One Act Drama Fi­nals to be held in Kil­muck­ridge over the se­cond week­end in December.

Balally Play­ers from Dun­drum in Dublin were the win­ners in the Open Sec­tion of the Cool­gre­any Fes­ti­val with their pro­duc­tion of the Gi­ant Killers, while Sil­lan Play­ers from Co. Ca­van were the win­ners in the Con­fined Sec­tion with the Long Wet Grass.

Other awards were as fol­lows. Best Di­rec­tor (Open Sec­tion) – Gary Wall, Balally. Best Di­rec­tor (Con­fined Sec­tion) – Yvonne Sey­mour, Sil­lan. Best Per­former (Open Sec­tion) – Seán Mur­phy, Balally. Best sup­port­ing per­former (Open Sec­tion) – Maura Lavelle, Bridge­wa­ter Theatre Group. Best per­former (Con­fined Sec­tion) – Eva Fid­geon, Sil­lan. Best Sup­port­ing Per­fomer (Con­fined Sec­tion) – Char­lene Cad­den, Bailiebor­ough Drama Group. Best De­sign – Sil­lan. Au­di­ence Award – Bailiebor­ough for Smile Hand­some. Ad­ju­di­ca­tor’s Award – Me­gan Mo­ra­han, Bridge Drama. Ad­ju­di­ca­tor’s Award – Liz O’Han­lon, Bailiebor­ough.

Cool­gre­any Drama would like to thank the Fes­ti­val Com­mit­tee for plan­ning and or­gan­is­ing the fes­ti­val and every­one who gen­er­ously lent a hand to en­sure ev­ery­thing ran smoothly each night. They would also like to thank the ex­cel­lent Ad­ju­di­ca­tor, Ge­off O’Ke­effe, for his en­ter­tain­ing and in­for­ma­tive as­sess­ments each night, and the fes­ti­val’s main spon­sors, Whizzy In­ter­net.

Most of all, Cool­gre­any Drama would like to thank all those who turned up in such great num­bers to be en­ter­tained by the nine shows. Cool­gre­any would not have a fes­ti­val with­out these stal­wart drama sup­port­ers.

They would also like to con­grat­u­late all the fes­ti­val award win­ners and wish the best of luck to all the groups from around the coun­try tak­ing part in the all-Ire­land drama cir­cuit this month.

These groups in­clude Cool­gre­any Drama it­self, which be­gan its all-Ire­land cir­cuit jour­ney at the week­end in Let­terkenny and Bal­lina with its pro­duc­tion of Mr Foot, Di­rected by Sally Stevens and fea­tur­ing Mag­gie Mur­phy and Niall Hunter.

Cool­gre­any’s next ma­jor pro­duc­tion at St Mogue’s, Inch will be Juno and the Pay­cock, by Seán O’Casey, di­rected by Ned Dempsey, run­ning from Jan­uary 24 to Jan­uary 27.

CHEQUE PRE­SEN­TA­TION

On next Fri­day night, Novem­ber 8, at 9 p.m., the Lo­cal Cool­gre­any Vin­tage Club will make pre­sen­ta­tions of cheques to North Wex­ford Hospice and Cool­gre­any Tidy Towns from the pro­ceeds of the Cool­gre­any Vin­tage Club Day which was re­cently held in the Cool­gre­any and was an out­stand­ing suc­cess.

TIDY TOWNS

The group is look­ing for­ward to the re­sults of the Keep Wex­ford beau­ti­ful com­pe­ti­tion on Novem­ber 12, as the vil­lage was look­ing splen­did all sum­mer. We were de­lighted to achieve four ex­tra points in the Tidy Towns com­pe­ti­tion this year. Thanks to the Fás work­ers and all the helpers who gave their time and helped to achieve this re­sult.

80TH BIRTH­DAY

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Maureen Bushe Plat­tin­stown, who cel­e­brated her 80th birth­day in the Cool­gre­any Inn on last Satur­day night with fam­ily and Friends, the en­ter­tain­ment on the night was a real fam­ily af­fair with Maureen singing a num­ber of songs, and ably as­sisted by the ac­com­pa­ni­ment of her fam­ily.

60TH PARTY

On Sun­day it was the turn of Kath­leen Nobbs, who turned on the style with fam­ily and Friends for a big Party and raf­fle in the Cool­gre­any Inn, where Kath­leen re­quested that in lieu of presents, guests would make vol­un­tary donations to Arklow Cancer Sup­port Group, and a great evening and night of par­ty­ing was en­joyed by all present.

Kath­leen would like to thank every­one who at­tended and sup­ported her re­quest.

21ST BIRTH­DAY

Con­grat­u­la­tions to Caitlin Law­less, Cronecrib­bon, Inch, who cel­e­brated her 21st birth­day in the Cool­gre­any Inn on last Fri­day night with her fam­ily and a large cir­cle of friends and guests en­joyed a great night of danc­ing and en­ter­tain­ment.
