Vol­un­teers are sought for a new com­mu­nity ini­tia­tive be­ing run by Wick­low De­men­tia Sup­port.

Meet and Eat is a pro­ject that aims to tar­get older adults who are so­cially iso­lated, liv­ing alone and in par­tic­u­lar those who are vul­ner­a­ble due to phys­i­cal, men­tal, or cog­ni­tive im­pair­ment.

Twelve vol­un­teers, both male and fe­male are to be re­cruited in the Arklow area to as­sist with pre­par­ing sim­ple nu­tri­tious meals and pro­vid­ing com­pan­ion­ship at meal­times once a week in the older per­son’s home.

The pro­gramme is due to start in Oc­to­ber.

Vol­un­teers will re­ceive train­ing and have Garda vet­ting
