Delahunt’s prepares to shut its doors
THE Delahunt family are inviting everyone to join them on Saturday to mark the final day of trading at Delahunt’s Hardware after over 140 years.
The family business has passed through four generations of the family ever since Thomas Delahunt opened a bar and grocery on Wicklow’s Main Street in 1870.
The current location of the hardware store on Abbey Hill was purchased in 1907 by Slyvester Delahunt, the son of Thomas and Catherine Delahunt.
After Sylvester died, the business was left to his 21-year-old son Thomas, who is the father of the current owner, Syl Delahunt.
The final curtain for Delahunt’s Hardware draws to a close this Saturday and customers are invited to join staff at the store for refreshments and a chat from noon until 2 p.m..
Syl and Grace Delahunt, along with current and former staff, customers and friends will be reminiscing and reviewing old photographs of the store through the years as it served the people of Wicklow town
‘This will be an incredibly emotional day for us all. We would love if as many past employees as possible could join us. That would be wonderful,’ said Syl Delahunt.
