Maths and athletics add up to winning combination
A NEW unique educational programme combining mathematics and athletics has been launched in local schools.
Mathletics 4 Schools has been developed by a team of experienced maths and athletics coaches. The ultimate goal is to make maths more fun and interesting for pupils.
So far participating schools include St Coen’s of Rathnew, Our Lady’s in Rathdrum and The Glebe NS in Wicklow town.
Sessions have also taken place at schools in Bray, Delgany, Greystones and Kilmacanogue.
‘Mathletics 4 Schools is a fantastic programme that combines maths instruction and PE teaching that enhances attainment in both areas. I have seen a great improvement in the understanding and attitude towards both maths and PE in all the children.
‘The activities encourage team work that also develops communication and cooperation skills. I would highly recommend this programme to anyone,’ said Lee Kavanagh, third class teacher at St Coen’s Primary School.
