Magnificent Wicklow

Wicklow People (West Edition) - - NEWS -

Wicklow GAA Fans would have travelled more in hope than with confidence to Portlaoise last Sunday for our Leinster Championship match against Offaly. Having failed to win a single match in Division 4 of the National Football earlier in the year it certainly did not look good for the garden county.

But what a very pleasant surprise the Wicklow Fans got as the Wicklow lads turned in a magnificent performance to defeat Offaly by 1-20 to 1-15 after extra time. As Wicklow Local radio Station East Coast did not bother to broadcast the match I had to follow it on Twitter and Midlands Radio three which is an Offaly Radio Station.

It sounded like an exciting encounter with little between the teams in normal time. Offaly were in front at half-time but Wicklow fought back in the second half to bring to match to extra time.

Wicklow dominated extra time to run out deserving winners. Their winner’s prize is a handy match against Leinster and all-Ireland Champions Dublin in the Quarter – Finals in a few weeks time? Bring them on.
