GAA lotto

Bless­ing­ton GAA Club held their very lat­est lotto draw on Tues­day, July 31, with an­other brand new jack­pot which was stand­ing at €4,400. Fi­nally the top prize was won and seven pun­ters man­aged to match even three num­bers. They each re­ceived €45. The lucky jack­pot win­ner was Geral­dine Booth­man Bless­ing­ton, who won €4,400. Tick­ets priced at only €2 are al­ready on sale at the usual lo­cal out­lets or from a com­mit­tee mem­ber for the club’s next lotto draw which will have an­other new jack­pot. The draw will take place on Tues­day, Au­gust 14.

The club urge mem­bers and sup­port­ers to pur­chase tick­ets and also ask them to en­cour­age friends and rel­a­tives to do the same. The re­cent sales have been ex­cel­lent and the club re­ally ap­pre­ci­ate it. This is the club’s main fundraiser dur­ing the year and a lot of time and ef­fort is put into mak­ing it a suc­cess. Re­mem­ber if you get the num­bers right on the night you will be win­ning the jack­pot which no doubt would come in very handy at this time of the year.


The death took place last week of David McEvoy Bal­ly­knockan. His re­mains were re­moved to Val­ley­mount Church and af­ter re­quiem Mass his re­mains were re­moved to New­lands Cross Cre­ma­to­rium Dublin for cre­ma­tion. There was a very large at­ten­dance at David’s Fu­neral which was most fit­ting as he was well liked and well known in the Bal­ly­knockan and sur­round­ing area. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Gym equip­ment

The first set of out­door gym equip­ment (seven pieces, part wheel­chair friendly) have been in­stalled on the relief road be­tween Bless­ing­ton’s Skate­board Park and the play­ground be­side Oak Drive. In­struc­tions for use are straight for­ward and are set out on each piece of equip­ment So on your next walk, have a look, ex­er­cise and en­joy.

Ceme­tery Sun­day

Here is a date for your di­ary the an­nual Mass and bless­ing of the graves will take place in Bal­ty­boys Ceme­tery on Sun­day, Septem­ber 2, at mid­day. Par­ish­ioners are ad­vised to no­tify rel­a­tives and friends liv­ing out­side the area in plenty of time in case they may wish to come along n the day.

Pa­pal Mass – seek­ing vol­un­teers

Be part of the Holy Com­mu­nion team at the Pa­pal Mass in Phoenix Park on Sun­day, Au­gust 26.The or­gan­is­ers are seek­ing the gen­er­ous help of around 4,000 min­is­ters of Holy Com­mu­nion to vol­un­teer for one day to be Christ’s dis­ci­ples help­ing to give the Bread of Life to the peo­ple at this his­toric Pa­pal Mass. This is open to any of those who are al­ready trained and as­sist­ing with the dis­tri­bu­tion of Holy Com­mu­nion in their own parishes. They are look­ing for the help of lay peo­ple, pri­ests, dea­cons and re­li­gious Min­is­ters of Holy Com­mu­nion.

Those vol­un­teer­ing need to be trained and func­tion­ing min­is­ters of Holy Com­mu­nion in your own par­ish com­mu­nity. You will need to be Garda vet­ted for this event even though you have been vet­ted for this min­istry in your own par­ish (if you are al­ready Garda vet­ted for WMOF2018, that suf­fices).

Car boot sale and mar­ket

The very pop­u­lar car boot sale which takes place at St Kevin’s Com­mu­nity Cen­tre Bless­ing­ton is com­ing your way on Sun­day, Au­gust 12. For sell­ers the gates will be open from 7 a.m. and the sale for buy­ers will run from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m. There will be a lim­ited num­ber of in­door ta­bles avail­able and they will be dis­trib­uted on a first come ba­sis. If you would like to book one of these ta­bles please contact Pat Con­lon tele­phone 086 0752072.

Buy­ers will be de­lighted to see the car boot sale back again with lots of bar­gains in house­hold and work­shop goods, cakes, jams, books, CDs, cloth­ing for all the fam­ily and lots more bar­gains. But make sure to hag­gle. Buy­ers please note that free car park­ing will be avail­able in the grounds of St Kevin’s Com­mu­nity Cen­tre and the or­gan­is­ers en­cour­age you to use this fa­cil­ity. Ev­ery month a lo­cal char­ity gets a most wel­come do­na­tion from this event.

Heal­ing Mass

The Sacrament of the sick or Heal­ing Mass will be cel­e­brated in the Church of Our Lady Bless­ing­ton on Satur­day, Au­gust 11, at mid­day. All are most wel­come to at­tend es­pe­cially peo­ple who may not be too well at this mo­ment in time.

Field day

The Bless­ing­ton field day, in aid of Bless­ing­ton Res­cue Boat will be tak­ing place on Sun­day, Au­gust 19, from mid­day to 6 p.m. in Bless­ing­ton GAA pitch. All sup­port will be much ap­pre­ci­ated by the or­gan­is­ers.

Ladies’ GAA

Bless­ing­ton Ladies’ Sec­tion of the GAA Club is cel­e­brat­ing their Sil­ver An­niver­sary on Au­gust 25. How the years have flown by ladies. They have an ac­tion packed day not to be missed. There will be fun for all the fam­ily in Bless­ing­ton GAA pitches from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. fol­lowed by an evening of en­ter­tain­ment for the adults in the Avon Ri from 8 p.m. till late. All are very wel­come. Come and join in the craic of this won­der­ful oc­ca­sion of Bless­ing­ton LGFA.

Fid­dler’s CD

Lo­cal fid­dler Rachel Con­lon re­cently recorded a tune called ‘The Moun­tain Stream’ which was recorded in Manor Kil­bride Hall. The tune was writ­ten by well known Gal­way Com­poser Vin­cent Brod­er­ick, who com­posed the tune while sit­ting at the Metal Bridge near Manor Kil­bride while the river was in full flow.


There is a re­minder that bap­tisms in the Church of Our Lady, Bless­ing­ton take place on the first Sun­day of ev­ery sec­ond month at mid­day and the sec­ond Satur­day of ev­ery month at 4.30 p.m. All book­ings must be made through the par­ish of­fice 045 865327. The Par­ish Bap­tism Team host a Bap­tism Prepa­ra­tion Meet­ing for par­ents each month in the Meet­ing Room of the Church of Our Lady. All par­ents who wish to have a baby bap­tised are re­quested to at­tend the Prepa­ra­tion Meet­ing.
