Balt­in­glass revs up for a clas­sic

EX­PECT the sound of revving en­gines to re­ver­ber­ate around Balt­in­glass this Sun­day, Au­gust 12, as the town plays host to the ninth an­nual Balt­in­glass Clas­sic Run.

En­thu­si­asts are urged to dust off their old cars and pol­ish them up for the event, which is or­gan­ised by the West Wick­low and Vin­tage Ve­hi­cle Club and acts as a fundraiser for West Wick­low Day Care Cen­tre and So­las Dunlavin special class.

There will be prizes for best car, best mo­tor­cy­cle, fur­thest trav­elled, best mod­ern clas­sic and plenty more.

There will also be ad­di­tional prizes to cel­e­brate the Ford Es­cort’s 50th an­niver­sary and the 70th an­niver­sary of the Land Rover and Mor­ris Mi­nor.

It costs €20 to enter and this in­cludes a meal af­ter the run, a free draw, goodie bags and a sou­venir rally board.

Cars and mo­tor­cy­cles are asked to as­sem­ble in Balt­in­glass from 10 a.m. and reg­is­tra­tion takes place at 11 a.m. with the run get­ting un­der way at 2 p.m.

There will be a traders area in Fa­tima Hall sell­ing all types of goods and there will also be stalls in Weaver’s Square.

Any­one wish­ing to make a do­na­tion to­ward the two char­i­ties can do so at Ger­maine’s In­is­fáil be­tween 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

162 cars and mo­tor­cy­cles took part in last year’s event and the run has steadily grown in pop­u­lar­ity down through the years.
