Efforts to repair Ashford Weir start with race night
ASHFORD Tidy Towns kick-started its efforts to repair Ashford Weir with a race night held in Chester Beatty’s.
The weir in the Vartry River was badly damaged during Storm Frank in December 2015 and has remained in a state of disrepair ever since that date.
The race night fundraiser gained plenty of support on the night with a large crowd roaring on the horse and jockey they had placed a punt on.
Local businesses were also very generous with their sponsorship of the different races and also provided various prizes which were up for grabs on the night.
Ashford Tidy Towns now have further fundraisers in the pipeline.
The estimated cost of fixing the weir is €10,000 and the local tidy towns hope the local authority will come on board once a certain amount of money has been raised. The damaged weir has also been mentioned negatively in past Tidy Towns judges reports.
