EX­CITE­MENT BUILDS AT FES­TI­VAL’S NEW SITE

THE ex­cite­ment is build­ing for this year’s 14th an­nual Carnew Her­itage Week­end, which will take place from Fri­day Septem­ber 14th, un­til Sun­day, Septem­ber 16th.

The com­mit­tee of Carnew Her­itage Club are ex­cited to an­nounce they are mov­ing to a new site for their 2018 show. The Her­itage Work­ing Day will take place op­po­site Candy’s Gala and will run in con­junc­tion with a new ven­ture – The Gar­den County Coun­try Fest.

The group has raised more than €100,000 for lo­cal char­i­ties since they be­gan in 2005 and are look­ing for­ward to ex­pand­ing the event into a full week­end ex­pe­ri­ence.

FRI­DAY, SEPTEM­BER 14TH

The Gar­den County Coun­try Fest week­end is be­ing run in part­ner­ship with Carnew GAA and kicks off on Fri­day even­ing, from 8 p.m., with an Open Air Teen Disco and Car­ni­val. DJ Ro­sisn Wheatley will take to the main stage at this fully su­per­vised, non al­co­hol event. An Ideal way to cel­e­brate the Ju­nior Cert Re­sults. Tickets on sale for €10.

SATUR­DAY, SEPTEM­BER 15TH

On Satur­day night you can Dance the night away on our 400 square me­tre cov­ered dance floor to Coun­try mu­sic singers Lee Matthews and Cliona Ha­gan at 8pm fol­lowed by more en­ter­tain­ment from DJ Pat Flem­ing.

Tickets for Satur­day only are €20 or €25 for a week­end ticket (Satur­day & Sun­day).

SUN­DAY, SEPTEM­BER 16TH

The Carnew Her­itage Work­ing Day, which will be­gin at 12 noon, will be filled with lots of ac­tiv­i­ties and things to do. With ex­hibitors trav­el­ling from near and far, there will be lots for every­one to see as the ex­hibitors will put on a dis­play of ru­ral her­itage crafts from over 50 years ago. As usual there will be horse and vin­tage trac­tor plough­ing, horse­shoe throw­ing com­pe­ti­tions, craft dis­plays, car boot sale and auto jum­ble, and much more.

Other ex­hibitors in­clude shoe­ing of horse by a pro­fes­sional black­smith, shear­ing of sheep with hand shears, steam threshing

with two steam en­gines com­ing on the day to work. Other club mem­bers will be with the usual crop of pota­toes to be har­vested and veg­eta­bles. Var­i­ous demon­stra­tions of har­vest­ing the bar­ley with binders, trailer com­bines and early self-pro­pelled com­bines will also take place.

Also back for 2018, is trac­tor pulling. Come see there mam­moth trac­tors com­pete to fin­ish their course while pulling the spe­cially de­sign sleigh. Also new for this year is vin­tage silage cut­ting demon­stra­tion. For fur­ther de­tails, con­tact the club on 087 6985275. The Carnew Her­itage Day is be­com­ing one of the big­gest vin­tage work­ing days in the south east and prom­ises to be a great day out for all of the fam­ily. Ad­mis­sion is €10 and chil­dren go free.

On the Sun­day after­noon, there will also be a full line up of mu­sic on stage with Theresa & The Stars, Danc­ing with Declan, Take 5 and Stacey Breen.

This year’s event is be­ing run to raise money for three lo­cal groups – Friends of Lo­cal Peo­ple with MS, Talk to Tom and South East Can­cer Trust.
