Michael cel­e­brates mile­stone 80th

There were plenty of peo­ple to raise a toast ‘fore’ Michael Glee­son as he cel­e­brated his 80th birth­day in Wick­low Golf Club on Fri­day night.

A large crowd gath­ered to pass on their well-wishes, mostly made up of fam­ily, friends and neigh­bours. Michael is also an avid Bridge and 45 Cards play­ers and mem­bers of the clubs he plays with were all present.

Michael is orig­i­nally from Thurles but has lived in Wick­low for some time now and has been mar­ried to An­nette for 55 years. Two weeks prior to his Wick­low bash, Michael also held a cel­e­bra­tion in Thurles.

He used to work as a post­man in the Gar­den County be­fore tak­ing on a po­si­tion work­ing for a Govern­ment De­part­ment.

Also in at­ten­dance at Wick­low Golf Club were Michael and An­nette’s son and daugh­ter Brian and Dara. His grand­chil­dren - Matt, Sara and Mad­die - pre­sented Michael with a spe­cial present on be­half of the fam­ily.

His neigh­bour, Mar­garet O’Donoghue, also made a spe­cial birth­day cake for the oc­ca­sion which was pre­sented to Michael.
