Community Games awards at St Patrick’s
BBKR held their annual awards night in St Patrick’s GAA Club On Saturday as nearly 200 children received medals.
MC for the night was Colm Fitzpatrick. Deputy Andrew Doyle was in attendance, as he has for the past number of years. He also paid special tribute to Jimmy O’Shaughnessy who hasn’t missed the awards night in over 20 years.
Some of the awards were presented by members of Wicklow County Board along Mary Brett Kelly, former National President George O’Toole, Jimmy O’Shaughnessy, Deputy Doyle and Cllr Shay Cullen.
It was the first time attending for Minister of Health, Simon Harris, who commended the committee on the amount of hard work involved in organising such an event for close to 200 children. He also spoke of the benefits of children’s involvement in the Community Games, especially from a health and fitness perspective.
The Coney Award was presented to Zoe Wilson, while the Heatherington Memorial was awarded to Hugh Fennessy. The O’Donoghue Participation Trophy award went to Sean O’Donoghue.
The night finished with a disco, which was the highlight for many of the young Community Games participants.
