Man charged with dangerous driving
A Rathnew man accused of dangerous driving was refused bail due to what Judge David Kennedy described as a ‘serious attempt to evade arrest’.
Christopher Cosgrove (27), 88 Drumkay, Rathnew, appeared before Wicklow District Court yesterday (Tuesday).
He had been remanded in custody on Saturday at a special sitting and was making a fresh bail application.
Cosgrave is accused of dangerous driving at Blackditch, Newcastle, on Saturday, October 7, as well as driving while disqualified, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance. The court heard that there may be further charges. Solicitor David Tarrant said that on the previous Saturday there was an objection to bail. He said that Cosgrove’s mother was in court on Tuesday and prepared to act as independent surety. He said that Cosgrove had a small job which would be lost if he was kept in custody.
Gardai said that they still have the same objections to bail. Judge Kennedy said that he could not grant bail, on the basis of that behaviour.
The matter was adjourned to Tuesday, October 17.
