Ashford Rovers bowed out of the LFA Junior Cup when the suffered the heartache of a penalty shoot-out defeat in their second round tie away to Deen Celtic.
In an even first-half the Deen Celtic goalkeeper was called into action on a few occasions, while Cathal Moody pulled off a fine save to keep the visitors level.
The Kilkenny outfit took the lead from the penalty spot five minutes into the second-half but Ashford responded well and cranked up the pressure for the final half hour.
Eventually they made the breakthrough, when Robbie Eyre fired home after great work in the build-up from Andrew Reilly and Anto Byrne.
Rovers continued to press in extra-time but couldn’t find a winner, so it was left to penalties, with Deen Celtic winning the shoot-out 4-2.
Arklow Celtic also went to extra-time before losing a thrilling tie 6-5, with Seán Garvey (two), David Kavanagh, Danny Lai and Edwin Walker getting their goals away to Naas United.
Newtown United, who lost out to Carnew on Sunday.
