Water pressure reduced to allow reservoirs to fill
Irish Water reduced water pressure in the greater Dublin area, including north Wicklow, last Monday night from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
This was to allow reservoirs to refill after extra demand on resources.
Irish Water said that demand for water rose by over 10 per cent over the weekend and storage was severely depleted.
‘Demand is continuing to rise and our reservoir levels continue to drop. There is not enough water in our reservoirs to meet the current levels of demand,’ said the body in a statement.
They said that the reduction in pressure was essential to allow reservoirs to refill as repairs to bursts and leaks were under way. It said hospitals would be prioritised and would have water diverted to them, adding it needed to reduce water pressure to minimise the impact on homes, and in a bid to avoid ‘widespread outages’.
