Tickets to go on sale for Jesus Christ Superstar

AVONMORE Musical Society’s 39th production, Jesus Christ Superstar, will hit the stage in St. Mary’s College, Arklow from Tuesday, April 3 until Saturday, April 7 at 8 p.m.

Online booking for the show will open on Tuesday, March 20. Ticket prices are students €13 for downstairs, adult €15 for downstairs and €17 for the balcony. Tickets can be booked at www. gr8events.ie/avonmore or call 086 8722010 (6 to 8 p.m. daily)

The show is directed by Stephen Acton, musical director is Naoimh Penston and choreograp­her is Martina Lynch. The iconic rock opera is a timeless work set against the backdrop of an extraordin­ary and universall­y known series of events.

With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, this global blockbuste­r tells the story of the final weeks in the life of Jesus Christ, from the perspectiv­e of Judas Iscariot. As Christ’s followers grow more fervent, Judas must make his fateful choice between faith and betrayal. Filled with an exciting mix of musical styles that draw upon 1970s rock, gospel, folk and funk themes, this contempora­ry imagining of the biblical tale features high-energy dance and powerful storytelli­ng.

The society is busy rehearsing this riveting and wonderful show with driving rock rhythms and lyric ballads, showcasing a wonderful front line backed up by a super chorus on stage. Musical numbers from the show include: What’s the Buzz, Everything’s Alright, Hosanna, I Don’t Know How To Love Him, Gethsemane, Could We Start Again Please, Superstar and many more.
