Races in aid of Temple Street fund
BALLINACLASH man Ciarán Byrne is attempting to complete the 2,500 mile challenge that is Route 66 in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital.
He will set off on his USA challenge in September, and ahead of that he is fundraising at home in County Wicklow. Ciarán will be part of a group of motorcyclists completing the route over a five week period.
Temple Street is not only a hospital that provides top class medical care for children, but it is, to many of the young patients and their families, a home from home.
On Saturday, April 14 there will be a one day festival of running in and around the grounds of Avondale House and Forest Park. Many people will be familiar with the Wicklow Hospice Four Day Festival of Running which is held every year in Avondale during July. This April’s one day festival is being organised by the Wicklow Hospice Crew but it is a one-off fund raiser in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital.
The event consists of a choice of five distances: five, ten, 15 and 20 miles or a full marathon. Online entry which closes at midnight on April 12 is €25 at www.sportszone.ie or €30 on the day, provided there are spaces available.
Walkers are more than welcome and there is a specially struck medal for the 200 participants. All proceeds from the one day festival of running go towards Temple Street Children’s Hospital, a cause that resonates with many people in Wicklow and beyond.
