Races in aid of Tem­ple Street fund

BAL­LI­NA­CLASH man Ciarán Byrne is at­tempt­ing to com­plete the 2,500 mile chal­lenge that is Route 66 in aid of Tem­ple Street Chil­dren’s Hos­pi­tal.

He will set off on his USA chal­lenge in Septem­ber, and ahead of that he is fundrais­ing at home in County Wick­low. Ciarán will be part of a group of mo­tor­cy­clists com­plet­ing the route over a five week pe­riod.

Tem­ple Street is not only a hos­pi­tal that pro­vides top class med­i­cal care for chil­dren, but it is, to many of the young pa­tients and their fam­i­lies, a home from home.

On Satur­day, April 14 there will be a one day fes­ti­val of run­ning in and around the grounds of Avon­dale House and For­est Park. Many peo­ple will be fa­mil­iar with the Wick­low Hos­pice Four Day Fes­ti­val of Run­ning which is held ev­ery year in Avon­dale dur­ing July. This April’s one day fes­ti­val is be­ing or­gan­ised by the Wick­low Hos­pice Crew but it is a one-off fund raiser in aid of Tem­ple Street Chil­dren’s Hos­pi­tal.

The event con­sists of a choice of five dis­tances: five, ten, 15 and 20 miles or a full marathon. On­line en­try which closes at mid­night on April 12 is €25 at www.sport­szone.ie or €30 on the day, pro­vided there are spa­ces avail­able.

Walk­ers are more than wel­come and there is a spe­cially struck medal for the 200 par­tic­i­pants. All pro­ceeds from the one day fes­ti­val of run­ning go to­wards Tem­ple Street Chil­dren’s Hos­pi­tal, a cause that res­onates with many peo­ple in Wick­low and be­yond.
