WICKLOW ROVERS

-

The weather yet again played havoc with fixtures last weekend, the heavy rain on Thursday and Friday put paid to the seniors, the under-18s and both under-17 teams fixtures.

In junior action on Saturday, the 12As suffered their first defeat of the season when they went down 2-1 at home to Cabinteely.

In what was a close game between two evenly matched sides this game could have went either way.

A draw would probably have been a fair result but the lads didn’t take their chances when they came their way.

Lee Brown hit his second goal of the campaign to give the lads the lead but Cabinteely came roaring back with two goals to run out 2-1 winners.

The 11As lost 2-0 against Aughrim in a game the lads done everything but score.

They controlled the match for large periods creating numerous chances but a mixture of bad luck and good goalkeeping prevented the lads from finding the back of the net.

The 13As moved safely through to the next round of the Gerry Murphy Cup when they recorded a 5-4 penalty shootout win away to Ballyoulster United.

At the end of ordinary time and extra-time the teams were all square at 1-1 with Oscar Malcolmson netting the Rovers goal.

The lads held their nerve in the dreaded shootout with Louis and Oscar Malcolmson, Ross McCrea, Nicholas McAllister and Jack Noble all successful with their spot kicks.

The 15As were unlucky to exit the Cox Cup when they went down 1-0 away to Phoenix FC, when the sides met a couple of weeks ago Rovers came out on top in a five goal thriller winning 3-2 but this game was a much tighter affair.

Saying that, the lads had chances, but on the day it wasn’t to be.

Our 16s made the short hop across to Finlay Park but got no joy in their game with Wicklow Town going down 4-0 against a strong Town side. They gave it their all but the Town ran out deserved
