Golftournamentin Bobby’s memory
GLENCORMAC United FC, in conjunction with the Messett family, will host the Bobby Messett Memorial Golf Classic on Friday, August 24, at Charlesland Golf Club.
Any funds raised on the day will be used in memory of Bobby, pictured right.
‘The club is honoured that the family of this wonderful man are backing us 100 per cent in what is such a difficult time for them,’ said a spokesman.
The event will be a four-team member scramble whereby everyone plays the best ball each time and this type of format is suited to non-golfers who just really want to play and remember Bobby.
Tee times range from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and can be booked by calling Trevor Carr at 086 3286300. A team of four costs €240. Tee box sponsors would be appreciated. They cost €100 and can be booked with Liam Finnerty at 086 6074821.
There will be food, music and a prize giving at Pluck’s after the golf.
Bobby (50) died on Tuesday, June 5, when a gunman entered Bray Boxing club and opened fire. Pete Taylor (57) and Ian Britton (35) were also injured.
Investigations continue, with gardaí sifting through large amounts of CCTV. The killer left the scene in a van which he abandoned in Poolbeg before making his getaway on a bicycle.
