at Gormanstown Park

PSI Wicklow Wasps competed in the first ever Psi Indoor Hockey Showdown over the weekend of June 23 and 24 in Gormanston Park against five other franchises from around Ireland.

The Wasps entered three girls’ squads in the sixth class and first year age categories. The sixth class ‘Whites’ were unbeaten throughout the tournament and came home with the gold, whilst the ‘Blues’ placed fourth in the end. The first year ‘Reds’ secured bronze on the final day.

In addition to the excellent placings overall, the Wasps were awarded ‘Best Team Spirit’ in both the sixth class and first year categories and the franchise itself won joint ‘Franchise of the Year’! Six Wasps players have also been selected to travel to South Africa in December to compete in an Irish All-Star squad.

In addition to the hockey, there was a fun zone available for the players and spectators to enjoy throughout the weekend as well as an All-Stars game on Saturday with World Cup winners Bjorn Kellerman and Sjoerd de Wert alongside some of the best players from the Irish scene like Ross Canning and Olympian and previous Irish Hockey captain Ronan Gormley.

An incredible weekend of hockey, entertainment, competition and memories were made, and plans are underway for Showdown 2019 with Wasps aiming to add in at least one boys squad to the mix. For more information on how to join Psi Wicklow Wasps, email psiwicklow@gmail.com.
