Annacurra COMMUNITY PLAYGROUND

Thank you to everyone who joined us in the Woodenbrid­ge Hotel for our Ladies Day Out. It was a fabulous day. A huge thank you to McMullans and Fayebella for sharing some beautiful style with us, to Nicola Dillon from Pure Beauty by Nicola and profession­al make up artist Catherina McAllister for sharing their make up tips and to Róisín Fitzgerald from Vale Beauty and Massage Boutique for skincare advice.

It was also great to have our talented local ladies Nicola Dillon, Catherina McAllister, Claire Newsome, Tracey Murphy, Ingliss Lawless, Amy Nolan and Casey Keogh use their expertise in our beauty pop up. Thank you to Marie Cullen for doing a great job as MC.

The patron in Preban will take place at 7.30 p.m. on Friday evening. The patron in Annacurra will also take place at 7.30 p.m. on Sunday evening. There will be no 9 a.m. on Sunday morning.

GAA ACTION

The seniors are training away and nd playing practice matches getting ready for the champion championsh­ip.

Our sympathy to the Doyle family on Sheila’s passing. To the O’Neill and Doyle families on Jim’s passing and to the Byrne family on Margaret’s passing. May the rest in peace.

Aughrim LOTTO

The numbers 9, 10, 18 and 28 were drawn in the sports club lotto on Monday last, July 2, There were no match-three winners or jackpot winners. The jackpot is €2,100.

BALLINATON­E FÊTE

Our annual Fête will be held in the grounds of Ballinaton­e Church on Saturday next, July 14, at 2.30 p.m. all the usual stalls, books cakes plants bric – a – brac and afternoon tea, Your support would be much appreciate­d.

CEMETERY MASSES

The annual Cemetery Masses and blessing of the graves will take place as follows: Upper Macreddin Cemetery – Monday, July 16. Lower Macreddin – Tuesday, July 17, Rosahane – Wednesday, July 18, All Masses are at 8.00.p.m. Please bring a small bottle of water and these will be blessed at the Mass for the blessing of the graves.

WMOF ART EXHIBITION

The Church of the Sacred Heart in Aughrim now has the art exhibits for the World Meeting of families art exhibition, titled ‘Family Life in Ireland’ on display in our church.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT

As we are on our summer break at the moment, please be reminded of a few items planned for the Autumm. Chair yoga will resume in September. We plan to have a days outing on September 18 to the ‘Altmont Gardens in Carlow with lunch included. We also hope to have a break away in mid October, Venue and date to be confirmed.

COFFEE MORNING

We are gradually reaching our target of €6,000 to build a house for a severely handicappe­d lady as part of of Sister Ann’s Mission in Haiti, but require one more effort to do so. A coffee morning is organised for Saturday, July 21, from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. at Hillbreeze Snugboroug­h, Barniskey (Cunningham­s). Come and enjoy a cuppa and support Sister Ann in her work for the poor of Haiti.

Coolgreany­Johnstown VINTAGE CLUB

The Coolgreany Vintage Day will be held in Coolgreany on Sunday, September 9, plans for the day are advancing well so far, and it is hoped to have a very big response on the day with vintage cars and tractors of all vintage years on exhibit. The plan is to have auto jumble stalls and vintage dress also. Entertainm­ent on the field will be provided by Stacey Breen with her lovely versions of old Country and Western Music.

All exhibits and trade stands must be on the field by midday, and all vehicles must have their own insurance. The committee are appealing to anyone who has an interest in vintage cars or tractors to join our club, the membership fee is set at a very reasonable sum of €25, and everyone is welcome to join. Next meeting on next Wednesday evening at 8.30 p.m.

GYMKHANA

The annual Gymkhana will be held in Coolgreany on Sunday, September 23, and plans are advancing favourably for that day. This is always very worthwhile day out, with some lovely trophies and cups to be won, and also some very good prizes in the very popular Dog Show section.

TIDY TOWNS

The local community are making a very big effort to clean all roads around the village in preparatio­n for the Tidy Towns competitio­n judging. It is with all the local support that better results can be achieved when the adjudicati­on is completed, and the committee are appealing for more help to keep the work going, and for all householde­rs to make a big effort in front of their own homes over the next number of weeks.

BIRTHDAYS

Congratula­tions to Seán Kavanagh Newtown, Coolgreany, who celebrated his 10th birthday on June 29; also birthday greetings to Joe Hughes Coolgreany Demesne, who celebrated his third birthday on July 6 last, hope you both had an enjoyable birthday.

2K CLEAN – UP

Congratula­tions to Maureen Kelly, who received a Gold Star for her efforts with the Local 2K Clean-Up for the village, Congratula­tions also to Marian Byrne, who received a Gold Star for her great work in the Croghan View area with the two K Clean-Up.

HANDBALL LOTTO

Coolgreany Handball lotto now stands at €6,000, lotto tickets are available in Jim Short’s, Coolgreany post office, O’Rafferty’s. A new prize format is now in place, with seven lucky dips worth €30 each and one Seller’s prize. There was one lucky seller winner last week: Damian Kelly, Coolgreany. Your weekly support is very much appreciate­d by the club.

Rathdrum GOLF SOCIETY

Jacobs Well Golf Society enjoyed the 4th outing of 2018 at the beautiful sun drenched Macreddin Golf Club on Saturday June 23. The course was in excellent condition thanks to the committee and staff for their hospitalit­y.

As usual the standard of golf was of the highest level which was evident by the high scores posted on the day.

Category 1 winner was Cormac Redmond with 36 points, category 2 winner Artie Byrne with an excellent 44 points, front nine James Byrne 18 points, back nine Sean Carroll with 19 points. Nearest the pins par 3s Alex Sheehan, Cormac Redmond, Daniel Redmond and Harry Connell, the longest drive was won by Sean Carroll and the visitors prize went to Daniel Redmond.

Thanks again to Mick Leonard for his usual efficiency in organising the event, and Alex Sheehan for compiling the results.

THURSDAY WALKS

Last week took 33 walkers to the heights of Croghanmoi­ra with its fantastic views. This was a slightly different circuit than usual and was ably led by guest leader Irene Langrell who had laid out the new route. Thanks Irene. If anyone else feels they would like to take on and lead a walk with which they are comfortabl­e please speak to Ann or Fergus.

This week takes us to Kirikee from Shay Eliott. Meeting as usual in Parnell Memorial Park Rathdrum at 7 p.m. and Glenmalure Lodge at 7.15 to travel to the start.
