SFC HIT BY WALKOVER

Hollywood must face Rathnew in play-off

-

‘WE just want to play football,’ was the response of a Hollywood GAA Club official when asked for his comments in relation to events that have forced a play-off between Mick Murray’s men and Rathnew following a walkover given by Kiltegan for a refixed SFC game on Monday night.

The original game was abandoned on Friday night last when the floodlights at the Baltinglass GAA Club suddenly went out immediately after an ambulance had arrived to collect an injured Hollywood player who had been lying on the ground for 75 minutes.

The Hollywood official wouldn’t comment on rumours that a member of his club was responsible for the turning off of the lights at the Baltinglass GAA grounds, but it is believed that there were no problems with the floodlights and that the matter was discussed on Monday night at a meeting in Baltinglass and that there is widespread anger in the west Wicklow club that someone would do such a thing.

Following the abandoning of the game, the CCC refixed the tie for Roundwood on Monday evening. However, Kiltegan informed the CCC that they were giving a walk-over due to injuries and players away at college.

This meant that Hollywood were now level with Rathnew on points and that score difference couldn’t come into play due to the walkover and that the sides had drawn in their fixture so a play-off has been arranged for this Sunday in Joule Park Aughrim at 2pm to decide who goes forward to the SFC semi-finals.

It is understood that the Kiltegan GAA Club have been hit with a fine by Wicklow GAA for giving the walkover but at the time of going to print no member of the CCC nor the Chairman of Kiltegan GAA Club could be contacted.

Kiltegan will now face AGB on Sunday afternoon following the Hollywood v. Rathnew play-off to progress to the county semi-final but they will need to at their best to get past Damien Redmond’s side who have lit a fire under this Senior championship.
